Fall is in full swing, and I couldn’t be happier about it! With my favorite season upon us, I thought it should be my duty to provide you with the season’s biggest trends and must-have items. I know how overwhelming it can be to dissect the many looks we see on the runway, layered outfits on the pages of magazines, and an explosion of fall content on Instagram. Fortunately, I am here to save you from the work I find so thrilling!
Since we’re still in this COVID limbo, let’s start with our feet first because we’re all excited to go somewhere even if it’s to the grocery store.

Gabriella Hearst

Khaite
Riding boots dominated this season.
The old time favorite boot got a revamp with thicker soles and a wider silhouette. They were styled with numerous looks on the Fall 2020 runways. We saw it at Gabriela Hearst, styled with her infamous elongated hemlines and luxe heavy knits that provide the perfect cool girl edge. Michael Kors styled the trend in a more traditional way with plaid prints, and the ever so classic cape coat as well as layered ponchos for a similar dramatic effect. Khaite took on a very cool approach by styling the trend with mini dresses and classic outwear like trench coats and oversized wool coats. Brandon Maxwell and Nili Lotan took a more basic approach with vintage style jeans, cozy sweaters and the trusty blazer

The Row

Khaite

Alberta Ferretti
On to bottoms!
I am a jean girl through and through, however, I am looking forward to adding more trousers into the mix. I am very into the looser, comfier take on trousers which we saw on the runways. Not too loose and definitely not tailored like we’re going on an interview. The Row nailed this look with the coolest sophistication. I loved the runway styling; longer hemlines and the layering of blazers and coats for effortless ease. Look to Alberta Ferretti for a more fashion forward look by styling your trousers tucked into your boots. Khaite stole my heart yet again styling the trousers for evening, layered with tights and kitten heel sandals.
Bermuda shorts were a trend last fall, but this season they came back with definite vengeance. There was not a show that didn’t showcase some variation of the silhouette. From leather, to plaid, and wool these shorts stole the show. You can see them styled with everything from chic riding boots and blazers, to edgier sweaters and bomber jackets.

A bit controversial…
but for sure here to stay.
The Peter Pan collar is not for everyone, but looked fantastic strutting in every show. A few favorites of mine were seen at Philosophy, Alberta Ferretti, and Celine. I love the way Philosophy styled the trend in a playful manner. Nothing looked too serious, but had a fun bohemian flare. Alberta Ferretti took on an edgier approach with all leather looks styled back to the coolest bomber jackets. Celine modernized the trend with capes and jeans which made it all very wearable and straight forward.

Max Mara

Jil Sander

Victoria Beckham
Let’s move along to coats
It will be chilly before we know it! Ponchos were another massive trend that dominated the runway. Literally every designer had a variation of the coat, from different fabrics like wool, to shearling and leather, they were all gorgeous! Some of my favorites were seen more classic and equestrian at Michael Kors, cool and clean at Jil Sander, sophisticated bohemian at Etro, cozy classic at Max Mara, playful and flirty at Philosophy, and elevated modern at Celine.
Bomber jackets made a big comeback at the shows this year. I love the new oversized silhouettes I saw on some of the runways, and the oversized collars debuted as well. Victoria Beckham, Todds, and Ulla Johnson were amongst the designers that recreated this style for fall. I loved the sleek styling at Victoria Beckham, the all leather looks that Todd’s showed us, and Ulla Johnson for our classic boho with a twist paired back to paper-bag bottoms and tonal looks.
Vests have been sneaking there way back into our lives for quite some time, but I love way it looked this season. There are many different variations of the cut from short styles, and oversized ones, in several fabrics like leather to all shearling pieces. Isabel Marant showcased many versions of the trend, styling them with chunky knits, and her classic paper-bag bottom. Prada pushed the envelope by styling the oversized vests over dresses.

Prada

Jil Sander

Bottega Veneta
Fringe made its way back into our lives in many different ways.
I know the trend can be a bit aggressive for some, but everyone can take part in it this year! We saw fringes on jackets at Prada, on dresses and skirts at Gabriela Hearst, but most accessible in accessories. Take a cue from Bottega Veneta, because the fringe bags are a real treat. The bag speaks for itself which lends for easily styling paired back to sweater dresses and tall boots.

Ulla Johnson

Balmain
Speaking of accessories…
One trend I noticed everywhere was the full length arm glove. As much as I love me some Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, we’re not wearing them with our pearls and tiaras. Think luxurious and a bit dramatic, but with the perfect sophistication. I loved the monochrome styling at The Row, and the dramatic leather versions at Balmain.
If you’re not into investing in trendy pieces, you can still be a part of fall 2020 fashion by dressing in grey on grey, on grey. Nothing looks more chic than a monochromic look. Isabel Marant, The Row, Alberta Ferretti, Todds, Max Mara, and Brunello Cucinelli were amongst some of the designers that took part in the tonal dressing trend.
